The digitization of the society has major consequences – it changes the way we work, live, communicate, interact, and the products we produce and consume. It is vital to help design this digital transformation process. You can contribute as part of the Digital Collaboration Challenge of the WI 2017. The Digital Collaboration Challenge 2017 focuses on the design of the future of digital collaboration. We understand “digital collaboration” as part of the challenge very broadly. Examples are:

• Digital collaboration processes within businesses, for example to more effectively use the knowledge expertise of particular employees
• IT-supported collaboration between citizens and municipalities, for example to improve the living conditions in specific districts
• IT-based collaboration between private persons, for example to realize social projects
• ...and many more – show us your creativity!

Students taking part in the Digital Collaboration Challenge have to design concepts of, for example, digital work processes, social networks, community platforms, or other similar IT-based offerings. The application fields of these concepts can be diverse and chosen freely by the participants.

Task

Create an IT-supported concept that explains how collaboration in the field you deem important should look like in the future. Demonstrate how and for whom collaboration will be facilitated with your concept, but also show its limitations. On the one hand, your contribution should describe a meaningful and helpful solution, on the other hand, it should explicitly apply basic principles and concepts of IT-based collaboration. Your contribution can build upon existing solutions (for example by adding functions or use concepts) or describe totally new solutions.

Format

Contributions can be submitted in German as well as English but should not exceed the page limit of 6 pages. You should consider the authors’ guidelines and the style sheet of the WI 2017 conference for this. The following structure can be used as an orientation help: motivation, background, methodology, concept, implementation, conclusion, and outlook.

Additional Documents

To illustrate the concept, video prototypes, screencasts of a prototype, or the URL on web-enabled prototypes, respectively, are welcome and can be submitted as well.

Conditions of Participation

The Digital Collaboration Challenge 2017 addresses students who are currently enrolled at a university or have been at any point of time in 2016, respectively. Lecturers should only advise generally, but not support the actual completion of the challenge. An exemplary group consists of 2-5 members.

Awards

The jury will choose up to three submissions and reward them with a prize money of 500 Euros each. Moreover, we will assume the conference fees of the members of the winning group and hence enable a free participation in the WI 2017.

Assessment Criteria:

Creativity, relevance, clarity, justification, and methodology will be assessed. The winning contributions will be announced as part of the WI 2017 in St.Gallen. The winners can further present their solution on the website of the expert group CSCW & Social Computing.

• December 31, 2016: Submission of competition contributions
